Stretch Marks: Resolving the Linear Issues

It isn’t rare to see a female consumer running down the aisle of cosmetic products wishing to land on a stretch mark solution. Well, who wouldn’t give anything to get rid of the pesky marks?

Secondary to pregnancy, weight gain or intake of medications, stretch marks are unattractive assets to show off.

Contrary to tattoos, stretch marks bear milestones in a different point of view. Though they might give you a victorious picture, they are body marks you would wish you never had.

Stretch marks are lines occurring in varying off-tone hues. They may be purplish or reddish when fresh, pinkish when a little too old and graying or whitish after a couple of months or years.

They may occur on your arms, waists, hips, thighs and even your breasts. They are not health issues which are likely to cause death. However, they become a social and emotional challenge. Having the marks is easy. Bearing them, all your life, is what’s difficult.

But…

You are presented with different treatment options to get rid of stretch marks. Though they may not present a permanent solution to stretch marks, they can at least give you something to look forward to.

The Medical Way

  • tretinoin creamIsotretinoin. Tretinoin creams are products which were designed to remedy younger stretch marks (those which are less than a few months old and still red or purplish or pinkish in color). These Vitamin A derivatives work by stimulating collagen production which is necessary for healthy skin repair.

A word of caution: tretinoin is never advised for pregnant women use. It can cause fetal abnormalities to the unborn fetus.

Furthermore, it is highly irritating to the skin. If you have skin allergies or suffer from a hypersensitive skin, you might want to consult your doctor first before buying the product.

  • Microdermabrasion. This procedure is a modern way to get rid of scars. It involves blowing of crystals onto the skin using a hand-held device, abrading of the skin by the instilled crystals and vacuuming off of the crystals thereafter. The goal of this treatment is to even out the topmost layer of the skin to get rid of unwanted tones and indentations, and promote healthy new skin growth.
  • Laser Therapy. Probably the most expensive of the treatments, laser therapy makes use of intense light wavelengths to stimulate the production of elastin, collagen and/or melanin production in the skin. These 3 substances are necessary in skin repair and maintenance. What type of laser, for how long and how frequent are questions which your physician will cater after looking into your history, information and stretch marks.

The Natural Way

  • Exercise. According to many experts, if you want to make stretch marks fade, you will have to work on it – lose weight.
  • Eat healthy. Indulge in meals that are rich in vitamins, minerals and proteins which are all necessary to improve skin repair.
  • A healthy dose of Vitamin E. Tocopherol or Vitamin E is a potent antioxidant. It can help you keep unwanted marks at bay.
